Yamaha FJR 1200 Squire ST combination

This was a challenging project in that the customer had a number of very specific requirements. He needed reverse in order to be able to manoeuvre his outfit in the confines of a garage built on a hill, so we devised a system that could be operated remotely (forwards or backwards) using an electric caravan mover installed behind the sidecar wheel.

Operated by its own battery, a split-charging system was installed to top the mover battery up and to allow the motorbike to be started by it should the main battery fail. The weight of the overall outfit dictated the need for a sidecar disc brake, with manually adjustable brake bias.

This bike was a show-stopper at many events because it could apparently "move" of its own accord – with the owner operating the controls from up to twenty metres away. Some party trick!
